God’s wisdom is a take-it-or-leave-it offer. Refusing to accept delivery will trigger negative consequences.
“I have been calling you, inviting you to come, but you would not listen. You paid no attention to me. You have ignored all my advice and have not been willing to let me correct you.” Proverbs 1:24-25
God offered Adam and Eve truth and eternal life but they did not accept the offer.
It’s the same choice believers face every day–the voice villain’s lie and the death it triggers; or the Lord’s truth and promise of eternity. God removes every bit of ambiguity on this by revealing himself to us so we do not have any excuse for making the wrong choice (Romans 1:20).
It’s on us! And it’s not easy. Our heart is pre-disposed to reject God’s authority and rebel in idolatry when we ignore the truth that would restrain our screaming lust.
We can freely choose evil over good and, similarly, have the choice to scoff at living a Christ-like life. The God of heaven and earth does not force us to listen to him (Psalm 66:18; Proverbs 29:1).
Truth and wisdom are privileges, not rights.
The good news?
God’s grace will never be denied to anyone who seeks it earnestly.
I ask God to help me seek his direction. I ask him to help me watch for his warnings in the fog of life’s daily chase. And I ask him to help me talk less and listen more.
