I Said “Absolutely No Way” to Talking About God

It was early in my faith walk and telling others about Jesus was the last thing on my “to-do list” as a striving aspirant to success and wealth. And then God tossed this in my path:

It was early in my faith walk and telling others about Jesus was the last thing on my “to-do list” as a striving aspirant to success and wealth. But that’s why God tossed this in my path:

“Be wise in the way you act toward those who are not believers, making good use of every opportunity you have.” Colossians 4:5

The Apostle Paul wanted the people of Colossae to “buy up” opportunities to tell others about God. The piercingly clear take away for us today is that every moment of our life, as long as our heart is beating, should be maximized in service to Christ.

That makes perfect sense to me now because TIME IS SHORT for both us and those who do not know Jesus. People who would otherwise leave this world estranged from the Lord of Heaven and earth.

Every hour of our life brings a situation that can be bought for eternity or missed. That’s why God wants us to be fully prepared to respond—with urgency—to every non-believer we encounter along the road of life.

He is imploring us to conduct ourselves wisely by discerning who to approach and what to say and how to say it. There will be times when we need to be bold and forthright. Other situations will call for a more nuanced approach that takes all circumstances into consideration.

No matter what the situation or conditions, there is one immutable truth: Every encounter we have with people has the potential to be soul-saving for eternity.

I ask God for the strength to avoid wasting any opportunity or squandering the chance to walk boldly under his power and grace through an open door into the heart of an unbeliever.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Are you making the most of the opportunities you have to tell others about God?

“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” Colossians 4:5 ESV

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
