You Cannot FOLLOW Jesus Going with the FLOW

September 21, 2020
Spiritual Growth

From the time the very first day our modern media factory began operating 24/7, it has been telling us to GO WITH THE FLOW. And we have largely obeyed.

Society makes its recommended FLOW–almost always in the waters of materialism and worldly success–seem “right” to keep us from going counter-culture and fighting the flow.

What society never tells us is that floating with the flow, without navigation, will keep us from arriving at GOD’S INNER SANCTUARY HARBOR (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Being flow-driven down a lazy river in life is EASY…until it’s not. And it will always, at some point, stop being easy and become hard…very hard.

Might be rapids. Might be rocks. Might be a 1000-foot drop over the falls ahead.

The only way to avoid the dangerous consequences of going with the world’s flow is to trust and FOLLOW Jesus. But make no mistake, that takes intentionality. Nobody follows Jesus while floating aimlessly toward the world’s alluring but false sunset.

Following Jesus is not possible if you are going with the flow of the world and pop culture. It requires NOTHING of us to be flow-driven down life’s lazy river and the countless dangers lurking around every turn.

Following Jesus is not just going with the flow. It’s…well, FOLLOWING JESUS by making a conscious choice to call on God as our navigator (Joshua 5:14).

Following Christ is not about GIVING UP trips down a river that has an unplanned destination.

It is about making sure God is with us for EVERY TRIP.

Making sure we are paying attention to his direction along the way.

Making sure we are tethered to the dock in his harbor for rest every day.

I ask God to help me to always follow (him) and never just flow (with the world).

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Are you FOLLOWING Jesus or FLOWING with the world right now?

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Mark 1:17

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
