Staying connected with God creates a spiritual rhythm that gives us his divine direction and establishes momentum for our walk with Christ.
The immediate benefit?
We are in a position to respond when God creates opportunities to model Christ for others that walk across the cinema of our mind.
It makes sense. God’s world is naturally rhythmic and driven by cycles in every part of his creation—humans, nature, seasons, time, emotions and so much more.
But our fast-paced life and its technology power plant have made it simple—and very tempting–to create our own frenetic rhythm that is counter to God’s natural rhythmic pace.
The antidote, of course, is spending time with God on a regular basis—day in and day out—so a rhythm can be established and we tap into his purpose for our life. We take on his rhythms of grace, forgiveness and joy. And we move ever closer to Christ-likeness.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3
HIJACKED!
Our modern life is out of sync with God’s rhythm. The to-do list of living has hijacked our mind and heart. Understanding the rhythm of God’s heartbeat is about being in tune with his heart and being in touch with what he is doing around us…through his eyes and heart.
Stressing and striving without God’s perspective and appropriate recovery depletes energy and moves us away from intimacy with Christ. This kind of linear living keeps us from properly reflecting on God’s discernment and direction along the way.
The antidote is oscillation, balancing stress and recovery so each step you take is smarter than the one before it and, hopefully, more effective in moving closer and closer to Christ.
