The COVID-19 Pandemic is the storm of a lifetime for most of us. We are all swimming in a slipstream of UNCERTAINTY the likes of which I have never seen in my lifetime.
This global storm is indiscriminate in the people it spears. Blind to the socio-economic lane it travels. Resolute to find two vulnerable lungs in the life it wants to destroy.
The COVID-19 conveyor belt operates 24/7 to manufacture an onslaught of uncertainty that has us cowering on the couch.
But the REAL storm is NOT the COVID-19 storm! The REAL STORM is facing these battles:
- Fear & Terror vs Faith & Trust
- External Events vs Internal Surrender
- lower-case belief vs CAPITAL B BELIEF
I get ready for those battles by taking my mind on an adventure to the SEA OF GALILEE to revisit one of Jesus’ most powerful lessons (Mark 4:35-41).
You know the story…
Jesus joined his disciples in their boat to relax after preaching all day and quickly fell asleep. It wasn’t long before a massive storm appeared and launched powerful waves that pummeled their boat.
This was nothing new to the disciples who had spent many days on this water. But they were about to witness something they had never experienced—a storm calmed by a man’s soft command.
“Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?” Mark 4:41
When the storm passed, Jesus asked: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:40
His questions were a reminder of who he is and encouragement to trust his truth.
And that’s the SAME MESSAGE God has for us right now as we wrestle the CoronaVirus monster.
I am blessed to have God with me in my boat through this CoronaVirus storm. To have him divert my attention from the world’s circumstances. To have him as my safe harbor no matter what. I pray that all of us have the faith and perseverance to clutch his outstretched hand in this devastating storm.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Is your faith defeating fear? Are you trusting or feeling terrorized? Have external events hindered your personal surrender? Are you believing with a CAPITAL or lower-case B?
“Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty!” Psalm 93:4
