MINDSHARE is one of the most powerful forces on the planet as myriad images and choices constantly snake across our mind’s cinema. Marketers spend BILLIONS of dollars to develop MINDSHARE because they know that market share comes AFTER mind share. Think Kleenex. Coke. Q-Tips. Xerox. Band-Aid.
What do you think the MINDSHARE is for a “Plate Spinner” at the circus who frantically spins multiple plates on skinny rods to maintain the momentum of each orb?
That’s easy. It would be squarely centered on keeping the plates spinning. Nothing else!
Moving the metaphor to Christians…the ultimate measure of a believer’s MINDSHARE is determining the FIRST thing that comes to our mind when we are confronted with the choices and decisions of life. Is it focused on the world and being boss of our life or is it an automatic default to Jesus?
The “perfect world” answer to that is simple, of course, but actually doing it will be a challenge for life.
To end up on the right side of that coin, our MINDSHARE must be on having the MIND OF CHRIST that looks at life through HIS lens and perspective. HIS heart and love for others. HIS hope and eternal promise for the future.
But the MIND OF CHRIST cannot be purchased and activated like a Starbucks gift card. It can only be summoned through the Holy Spirit with a disciplined mind that comports with what Jesus modeled on earth and teaches in his Word.
The collective challenge of trying to manage and control everything on our own requires extraordinary focus—100% MINDSHARE. That means we cannot be plate spinners and have the mind of Christ at the same time.
I ask God to give me the strength to focus my mind on his mind and reduce stress to free up focus time and opportunities for the Kingdom.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
What dominates your mind share at this stage of life? Are you trying to spin plates in your life? Which plates do you need to take off their stick and retire from the show?
“You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” Romans 8:9
