Spiritual Growth

This just in from our GLOBAL ONLINE TRIBE: How do you keep your faith so focused day-after-day?

This is a great question!

The focus part speaks to spiritual discipline. The heart and habits of a disciple.

The day-after-day part is also all about DISCIPLINE.

That’s the answer to the question–DISCIPLINE. But there is a much DEEPER MESSAGE to consider…

Focusing our faith day-in and day-out cannot be found unless we FIRST address a far more important question: Have we ACTIVATED OUR FAITH?

Activating our faith is a SPIRITUAL IMPERATIVE and the road to day-in, day-out focus on following Jesus. It is the way we live in the poetry of each moment. Dance in the music of hope. And revel in the power of possible.

Simply put, ACTIVATING OUR FAITH is surrendering to Jesus. Connecting with Jesus. Obeying Jesus.  Doing those three things puts our faith into action. It produces the kind of faith God wants us to have on this side of the Heavenly divide–aware of his presence and action-oriented.

If we have not activated our faith, the only response we have to the need to focus day-in and day-out is to look for the Christian list of rules on what to think, how to act, who to be.

This is what I call “TRY-HARD FAITH” that pushes us to stay focused on God under OUR OWN POWER. It quickly turns into a game of transactions and rules. You know…do this. Do that. Feel this. Feel that. Don’t do this. Don’t do that.

An activated and focused faith does not come from a list of rules. It is found in the very definition of spiritual maturity—becoming more-and-more like Christ.

I ask God to keep me focused on activating my faith by surrendering to him; connecting with him; and obeying him.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Is your faith activated? Are you sure?

“In the unity of common faith, and knowledge of the Son of God, we arrive at real maturity, the measure of development which is meant by the fullness of Christ.”  Ephesians 4:13
