Did You Wake Up Today Thinking GOD is GOOD?

I did NOT wake up today thinking this specific line: “God is Good” even though I KNOW he is. Like millions of other Christians, I use that line “God is Good” occasionally to acknowledge something he has done. Of course that’s great. But I want to REGULARLY claim “God is Good” over and over again. Especially at the start of every day.

“You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” Psalm 16:2

WHY is regularly claiming this truth—God is Good—so important?

ALL goodness comes from God.

That makes sense. The catalog of good things in life is deep and rich. There is good across all aspects of our daily life—physical, emotional, relational, and so much more. But without God at the helm, on his throne, there is no context for those things being good.

God is good so everything good comes from God (Genesis 1:31).

I love how the Apostle James puts it:

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17

God is the STANDARD for goodness.

Whatever and whoever is RIGHTEOUS in life is righteous based on what God says is righteous. Whatever and whoever is WISE is wise based on God’s wisdom. Whatever and whoever is GOOD is good based on God’s goodness.

Looking at God as the STANDARD of goodness gives us the basis and strength to trust that in all things—GOOD and BAD–he works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28).

Believers are to be motivated by God’s love and GOODNESS because it is pure, fair, and righteous. And, importantly, it avoids selfishness and looks for opportunities to focus on blessing OTHERS.

SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS may come off, on the surface, as goodness. But it will eventually show itself as false purity positioned to make a person feel superior to others. Our goal as a follower of Christ is to live on a foundation of GOD’S GOODNESS that compels us to be a blessing to others because we reflect his glory…and, of course, HIS GOODNESS.

I want to wake up every day proclaiming GOD’S GOODNESS because anything and everything good comes from HIM.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

When was the last time you woke and proclaimed: GOD IS GOOD?

“No one is good except God alone.” Mark 10:18

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
