Even though baseball stadiums are empty and the thwack of bat against ball has been silenced by Coronavirus, this is the time of year when our minds turn to America’s pastime and “rite of spring.”
And that offers up a perfect metaphor to ask this question about walking in faith with God: What pitch are you swinging at in life?
Safety & Security? Money & Materialism? Sacrifice & Service?
And if you keep swinging at that same pitch, where will you be in 5 years? In 10 years?
Christians swinging at the wrong pitch in life have not fully ACTIVATED their faith. I know because that used to be me.
What does it mean to ACTIVATE YOUR FAITH? After accepting Christ, Activating Your Faith moves through five “life commitments:”
- Total BELIEF
- Full SURRENDER
- Faithful OBEDIENCE
- Complete TRUST
- Controlled EXPECTATIONS
But since most people are motivated by what a commitment does for them, let’s START with a BENEFIT from committing to Activating Your Faith—STILLNESS.
TODAY’S MESSAGE IS SHORT—You need to take the STILLNESS TEST.
I am convinced that 90% of Christians fall far short of where God would want them to score and where they want to be when it comes to quieting their mind and life.
The goal of achieving stillness is not only to relieve stress, it’s to determine what is true and what is false in our life.
A noisy mind breeds fear and worry like mosquitoes replicating exponentially at dusk on an eerily-still pond. That’s why we must find the STILLNESS in Christ that comes from activating our faith.
On a scale of 1-10 (the best is 10), how still is your mind and heart and life?
Father God: Help me walk in love and exalt you just like the Thessalonians so I can live a real, transparent, and still life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Can you live at least part of today STILL? Give it a try.
“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life.” 1 Thessalonians 4:11
Stay tuned.
