Christians should NOT be spooked by this annual dance in the dark. Armed with the power of Christ and accompanied by the Holy Spirit, Halloween is not a threat. IT’S AN OPPORTUNITY!
Trembling at the appearance of Halloween’s pretentious entrance is a rejection of God’s supreme power. We need to do the opposite! Halloween is an opportunity to stare down fear and its accomplice cloaked in darkness.
Our battle is not against man’s flesh and blood. It’s not against the neighbor’s demonic decorations dancing to a blaring soundtrack of fright. And it’s not about society’s deepening embrace of all things dark.
Our battle is against the Enemy who prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).
That’s my take on the “holiday” we know as Halloween. But now what? What are Christians supposed to do on a day that has become as mainstream as main street.
What comes next may surprise you.
RELAX!
Resolve to channel God’s love and light and truth to the lost souls in our midst. Halloween is an OPPORTUNITY!
If you’re thinking of turning out the lights and closing the curtains tight…RECONSIDER. Instead, turn on the porch light and do not fear the Enemy’s scheming deception.
What kind of witness for Christ is blackening a Christian’s home on Halloween? Refusing to join in on the Halloween drill is NOT taking a stand against Satan. And deciding to participate is NOT an endorsement of the prince of darkness.
We have a choice today. Either we close ourselves off to others and sit in the dark OR we greet them with the love of Christ.
I ask God to help me never forget that holidays like Halloween are fueled by darkness. And I ask for him to keep me from running away from the opportunity to shine his light in that abyss.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Will you close yourself off on Halloween or search for someone to show the love of Christ?
