I love receiving questions from this ministry’s online tribe of 400,000 followers in nearly 100 countries. Like this one that came in last night–one of the most important questions every Christian must contemplate and be ready to answer–“WHAT IS FAITH?”
First, the short answer…
FAITH is trust in Jesus to be who he said he would be and to do what he said he would do.
Now, the rest of the story…
We need FAITH to be a Christian. And that means having reverence for the King of Kings—Jesus Christ—and loving him above everything else in life. It is choosing to believe in God’s unwavering promise that he will walk with us through life no matter what might come our way.
Why do we need to choose to believe in Jesus and his sacrifice for us on the Cross? Because we cannot save ourselves! We must believe and then accept God’s gift to us—Jesus. That repentant belief washes away our sins.
Through this act of FAITH—choosing to believe and trust—we are saved by God’s grace. That forgives our sinful past and removes the guilt it spawns.
OK…is that the end of it? Kind of…
Yes, we are saved for eternity. But sin will definitely continue to live on and produce temptation to fall away from our FAITH.
That’s why we need CONSTANT FAITH on our walk with God…for a lifetime. We need to put our FAITH into ACTION to keep it fresh. The Apostle Paul calls it the “obedience to the faith” (Romans 1:5).
Christian faith is about seeking and knowing Jesus Christ with every part of our soul and character (Matthew 22:37).
I ask God to prepare me for each and every opportunity to share the Good News and explain my faith in Christ.
