If Anything Is Wrong, EVERYTHING Is Wrong.

Spiritual Growth

I can remember early in my faith walk when a destructive voice reminded me that with each new “mistake” I made or bad thought I entertained, I was not worthy of God’s love and favor.

A negative thought pattern emerged that created a damaging self-perception that I was not up to the task of being like Jesus. It got worse when I mistakenly thought I was no good for others, no good for my families and friends, and certainly no good for God.

It became a zero-tolerance game where I was bad, not the behavior or the thought.

Then the final, crushing blow: If anything was wrong, everything was wrong.

BREAK THE CYCLE!

We must truly believe that God knows everything about the victory we seek and the barriers in its way. He promises to show up. Our role is to obey him and trust that we are worthy.

“All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:24

I ask God to help me embrace his unmerited favor and use that grace as proof enough that I am worthy and do not have be perfect. To remind me that my efforts and talents don’t matter…that I am worthy of his salvation and grace based on who I am in Christ, not what I have done or will do.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Do you catastrophize the negative parts of life that God actually wants to use in the OPPOSITE way—to accept and praise as opportunities to draw closer to him and actually deepen our spiritual roots and growth?

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
