My focus this month on the spiritual imperative to REJECT THE WORLD has taken us down a darkened road that I know all Christians have traveled. That’s the bad news—we often roll down this dark road as if we’re on the world’s cruise control.
But it hit me this morning that we’ve largely covered the “spiritual mechanics” of REJECTING THE WORLD on that dark road. But traveling in the opposite direction, away from the dark, is possible.
Yes, we can live a BLAMELESS life in Christ. YOU can live a BLAMELESS life in Christ.
I am sure that is sounding pretty good to you right now. It did to me. Though it ain’t easy…it’s worth it, of course.
We live in a world that is careening away from anything and everything HOLY. A world with an unhealthy focus on self that is antithetical to being HOLY. A world that plots at every turn against a Christian’s desire to be HOLY in God’s eyes.
Yes, living a holy, blameless life in Christ is one tough job. But it is worth pursuing, anyway. That was the aspirational goal Paul gave the Thessalonians…
“May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
Blamelessness in Christ–living without blame before the Lord and others—can only come from God. It has nothing to do with reaching the impossible state of sinless perfection in this life.
To be blameless means that we have no legitimate grounds for accusation before God and we haven’t wronged others without seeking to make it right. We have a clear conscience before God because we are living an authentic life and have turned away from sin.
To be sanctified and held blameless, put simply, means to live uprightly before God and before others.
Yes, we are blameless if we “continue in the faith” (Colossians 1:21–23).
Being blameless in Christ is trusting him and seeking his protective hand, not over-spiritualized perfectionism.
I ask God to strengthen me to persist, in his confidence, toward living a Godly, blameless life in him.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Is the world trying to talk you out of living a sanctified and blameless life?
“The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others.” Psalm 15:2-3
