Another important question just popped in from our online tribe: “Hey Mark, I’m confused by the Bible’s claim that we hide from God. What does that mean?”
The answer can be found by going back to the Garden where everything was great for Adam and Eve. They were fellowshipping with God. They were sinless. And then they accepted Satan’s offer.
In that moment the Garden’s perfection was replaced by a perforated peace that still haunts all of us.
God was RIGHT THERE with them and they still turned away from his truth. He spoke and they fled with their shame and guilt to find a place to hide.
That’s why we are all predisposed to hide when WE turn on that false voice. How sad! That voice is the same voice that can restore a wrecked soul. Transform a life. And bring a lost sheep to Christ.
The Holy Spirit has the power to replant the garden with his fertile soil and life-sustaining plants that can change our response to God’s voice from fear to fascination.
God’s WORD is God’s VOICE. Scripture transports us to God’s inner sanctuary where we are in the presence of the Lord of Heaven and earth. It is the passport to AUTHENTICITY.
Believers are tempted to cover up the shame that is deposited on our shore with each wave of sin. We delude ourselves into thinking that our charade of silence preserves our pious self-image.
“Sin? What sin?”
God’s Word provides the power to free ourselves from that trap so we can wrap his blanket of grace around our quivering soul.
We can’t hide from God. He knows everything. That’s why we need to confess and repent.
I ask God to keep me from hiding and bring me into his light so I can shine it on others.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Are you hiding from something?
“There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes. And it is to him that we must all give an account of ourselves.” Hebrews 4:13
