I Was The World Champion Boomerang Thrower In 1998

If you have ever tried to throw a boomerang, you know that throwing it is actually easy. The hard part is getting it to return.

Developed and perfected by the indigenous Aborigines in Australia, the v-shaped wonder is still popular today. In 1998, the world champion thrower tossed his boomerang nearly 1300 feet.
  
But the boomerang is not just something we throw around. It is often used as a metaphor to anchor messages on walking with Christ. Most common is the Golden Rule and what I call Boomerang Justice where Jesus punishes evil and rewards goodness.
  
But my take here is on our own sinful behavior.
  
The starting point is the behavior we want to change. That’s where the boomerang takes off and gains momentum from our initial burst of will power.
  
For a moment, the boomerang soars into the air before unexpectantly dipping when we drift back toward the behavior we are trying to avoid.
  
It isn’t long before the momentum we established earlier fades. Having drifted so far away from the earlier momentum, our will breaks. In what seems like an instant, we are right back to where we STARTED!
  

  
GROUNDING THE BOOMERANG
  
Since our thoughts drive our behavior, it makes sense that getting away from this dangerous threat resides somewhere in our mind. How we think. What we believe. And how we replace the world’s thoughts with the mind of Christ.
  
The only way to renew our mind is to flood it with God’s Word; pray for help and direction; and activate what he tells us the very next chance we get. That would be quickly. Even today. Perhaps right now.
  
I ask God to help me recognize and correct my behavior when it begins with me wanting to do the right thing and ends where it began with me doing the wrong thing.
