I woke up this morning with a deep sense of peace as the new day emerged from a charcoal sky. I ambled into my quiet time with an extra bounce and a simple thought: “God’s Protection Promise.”
I can’t really say how or why that line slid into my consciousness, but it did, so I embraced its power to thwart the worry and doubt that would surely greet me this day. (Make sure you read all the way to the bottom to find out what happened to me today.)
I started exploring what might lurk behind those simple words—God’s Protection Promise. It wasn’t long before God turned on the spigot and released the answer like it was a Stage 5 Run on the Colorado River in March. Take a look at just some of the whitewater powering God’s Protection Promise:
“But whoever listens to me will have security. He will be safe with no reason to be afraid.” Proverbs 1:33
“The Lord is like a strong tower, where the righteous can go and be safe.” Proverbs 18:10
“He will not let you fall; your protector is always awake.” Psalm 121:3
“The Lord will guard you; He is by your side to protect you.” Psalm 121:5-8
“When I lie down, I go to sleep in peace; you alone, Lord, keep me perfectly safe.” Psalm 4:8
“You have been a refuge for me, a shelter in my time of trouble.” Psalm 59:16
So there you are…God’s Protection Promise CANNOT BE UNDERMINED, unless of course, we do it ourselves.
You’ve no doubt figured me out by now–Psalms and Proverbs have deeply impacted my faith walk. I hope you can experience those same blessings. Maybe the story below will help you…
God’s Protection Promise comes alive for me by thinking of a person trapped in a rain-swollen river. Even though the water may be rising fast, the victim will NOT drown if the flow from upstream stops in time. But even after the water stops flowing from its source, it’s tough to convince the victim standing in water that it will be ok even as the water continues to rise. Indeed, it takes incredible trust that the flow of water has really stopped upstream where it can’t be seen, and there’s no way the water coming up on your body will do you harm.
If you’re standing in rising water right now, trust God that everything upstream is under control. That’s God’s Protection Promise.
I’m writing the end to this story as the day starts its decelerating wind down and I’d like to share an update. After recent struggles with doubt and struggling in life’s slipstream, I found myself now resting in God’s peace without worry or self-imposed “conditions” of what I think should happen next.
A torrent of pent-up action is about to burst out of me. I am stronger now. More committed now. And, indeed, more protected than I ever thought.
God’s Protection Promise, indeed.
We serve a Mighty God.
