I’m watching 2017 begin its final march into the sunset with a burning desire to make 2018 more significant than the year it nudges off the horizon. More significant in understanding my life purpose. And more significant in serving others who need God’s love and hope.
But making that dream a reality is not an automatic result from making another shallow resolution for the New Year. NO! Significance is far from automatic. Take a look at the formal definition of this powerful word:
significant /sɪɡˈnɪf·ɪ·kənt/
Having influence or effect; importance caused by something other than mere chance; a noticeably or measurably large amount.
OK, fair enough…that’s the world’s definition. But we need to apply that definition to LIVING A CHRIST-LIKE LIFE in order to be on the road toward TRUE SIGNIFICANCE.
That’s the road—Godly significance—I want to stay on in my life. To do that, my approach is to:
- Surrender to God and obey what I already know to be his will.
- Dig into God’s Word. Go to him in prayer. Listen to his Spirit.
- Take a solitude retreat, seek Godly input, and bring others into my life.
- Understand how God wired me and identify my passion, strengths and gifts.
Most importantly, I remember that there is but one shot at living a life in Christ on this side of the heavenly divide. JUST ONE.
That challenge prompts me to ask God continually for his perspective on significance in my walk with him and never settle for “pedestrian faith.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Will 2018 by more significant than 2017?
