That sounds crazy, right? Of course it does. But that is exactly what tormented my mind as a young Christian.
And then God radically transformed my thinking–and my life–with this wisdom from Solomon:
“You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.” Proverbs 28:13 GNT
There it is…we have a CHOICE!
Either we confess our sins and receive God’s peace or we hide our sins and live in pain and misery. Hide them from God or drop to our knees and confess them openly and work hard to avoid repeating the offense.
The choice is a simple one because we can never sin too much that God will turn his back on us. He will always accept and a broken heart pumping with contrition.
Breaking free from the burden of trying to conceal sin will propel us forward in a powerful way. Though we move forward with the inherent predisposition to sin still in us, it will not direct or dominate us.
In this way sin resides inside mature followers of Christ, but they do not live in sin. They acknowledge their sin so God will cover it in his light. They know that concealing it will prompt him to uncover its darkness. So they reveal it and give him access to both the “big” and “small” sins because there is NO difference between the two…
The only difference between sins is that they are either concealed by us or confessed to God.
I ask God to help me acknowledge my sins so he can cover them and keep me from concealing my transgressions.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are there any sins in your life that need to come out of hiding?
