Earlier this month I introduced the need to build a CHANGE RAMP to the new year and challenged you to give it a try for 2021. I argued that doing this work in December forces us to work with God on a vision for the new year that can easily be turned into an action plan when January arrives.
We then took the first step of identifying how living in 2020’s QUARANTINE CULTURE impacted our lives. That was followed up a couple of days ago with the need to conduct a SPIRITUAL MATURITY CHECK-UP by changing our “Faith Oil.”
Today, the focus is on sorting out where we stand on BEING and ACHIEVING. Let’s tackle that now.
I am not a fan of new year resolutions. Most of the time these resolutions default to ACHIEVING something the world covets. They rarely focus on BEING someone God is pleased with and blesses.
With that in mind for my CHANGE RAMP to 2021, I ask God:
- What kind of person he wants me to BE.
- Where he wants me to focus my ATTENTION.
- What FRUITS my faith walk should produce in 2021.
Those questions take my mind and heart to the next steps that need to be taken. To that end, below are my focus areas for 2021 that will steer me toward BEING and away from ACHIEVING.
SELF-WORTH: Thinking that God could never bless ME is one of Satan’s lies to thwart our faith walk.
FEAR: Our level of trembling fear is determined by how much we BELIEVE that God is in control.
HOPELESSNESS: We cannot allow distance to form between us and God because HOPE IN CHRIST is the gateway to our FULL SURRENDER to God.
PAIN: We need to set aside our mind’s negative chatter and realize that our pain is a DISGUISED OPPORTUNITY to help others.
ANGER: Our anger is a gauge for how much of our life we have YIELDED to God–yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever.
Your questions will undoubtedly be different. The point is to pray for what they are and then ASK THEM!
I ask God to keep me focused on BEING like him and ever-vigilant to fight off the urge to concentrate on ACHIEVING.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Will you focus on BEING over ACHIEVING in 2021? Are you ready to make that COMMITMENT right now?
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
