The APPLICATION of God’s Word STOPPED Me Cold

Spiritual Growth

We’ve been talking a lot about Spiritual Maturity this month by focusing LESS on what we do and MORE on our surrendered obedience to God. And we’ve accepted that our spiritual growth is not exclusively about accumulating knowledge of God’s Word.

With that foundation in place, we need to look at one of the most important NUANCES in our quest to grow our faith:

Our spiritual growth is not exclusively about accumulating Godly knowledge. Spiritual maturity is about the APPLICATION of the Godly knowledge. It is APPLICATION over ACTIVITY.

We must build an APPLICATION BRIDGE from the Bible to life-on-earth reality. Doing that will inspire us to ingest more of the Bible. Then we can APPLY that truth in our life and establish the momentum to continue the process day-in and day-out for a lifetime.

This application bridge is built by identifying WHY it is important for us to know the Bible—to put God’s Word into our soul so it can come out later and glorify him—not just “because we need to” or “someone told us to.”

APPLYING God’s Word in our life almost always involves our relationship with God, ourselves, or others. It is a process of fixing our eyes on God’s magnificence; focusing on a Bible verse; and applying its truth to something specific in our life; committing it to prayer to get God’s direction and discernment; and then acting in faith.

EXAMPLE: FAITH
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

When we started our ministry Love God Fear Nothing, there were NO followers and no money. That was our SIGHT. But we could feel that God was calling us to commit…so we did. That was our FAITH. We persevered and today there are over 1.3 million followers who are growing spiritually and maturing their faith.

EXAMPLE: LOVE
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12

We would love it if there were exceptions to this command. But, of course, there are none. That’s why we apply God’s Word to love others EVEN when someone is seemingly impossible to love.

I ask God to help me identify where in my life I need to APPLY his Word of Truth.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

When was the last time you were UNCOMFORTABLE in your faith walk? It may be time to get “spiritually uncomfortable” in order to grow your faith by APPLYING God’s Word in some part of your life. What will it be for you?

“Now that you know these things, do them. That is the path of blessing.”  John 13:17

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
