We’ve been drilling deep into GOD’S PROMISES this month and hit a rich vein of gold that can transform our life; inspire spiritual growth in other believers; and bring new souls into God’s family for eternity. COOL STUFF. But none of that happens if we FORGET his promises. It only happens if we REMEMBER them.
To claim a promise from God means we know it and have it in our action chute ready to activate. A towering barrier to pulling that off is the human tendency to forget GOD’S PROMISES. Getting stuck there leaves us flat-footed when the world’s pain machine slings circumstances our way that need God’s intervention.
It does not matter whether we “fail to remember” or “forget.” Put simply, it is a SPIRITUAL IMPERATIVE to KNOW God’s Promises…and REMEMBER them as instructed by Christ:
“…remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.” 2 Peter 3:1-2
Remembering something important takes more than traditional methods like saying the words over and over to memorize them. That’s a great start, but the only way to guarantee that God’s Promises are fused to our soul is to PUT THEM INTO ACTION and then remember the feeling it produces. The more we do it, the deeper the memory.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22
When I was under fierce attack and public humiliation as a CEO in the marketplace, I remembered this promise:
“Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.” Isaiah 41:10
I remembered it “over and over again” until it became inextricably linked to my faith. A daily anchor. A weapon against depression. An instrument of hope.
My spiritual quest is not for what I THINK I need. My spiritual quest is to find and embrace what God KNOWS I need. Doing that means I must remember the promises God has made for me.
I ask God to help me remember his promises so I can activate them in my life.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
How are you doing when it comes to REMEMBERING God’s PROMISES?
“Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13:17
