Is it good enough to believe that Jesus is the Son of God in the same way that we believe there are oceans on Planet Earth? NOPE. The Devil believes Jesus is the Son of God and knows all about the oceans, too.
When Jesus brought his love and righteousness to a fallen world encased in despair, he encountered a prowling and evil Enemy who acknowledged his Lordship and recognized him as the Son of God. But the Enemy’s belief in Christology, and clear understanding of Jesus’ mission on earth, was not even close to being enough to save him.
Believing that Jesus is the Son of God is not the missing ticket to God’s inner sanctuary. What’s missing is surrendering our life to the Lord of Heaven and earth. Trusting and obeying him. Revering and loving him.
Making that sweeping commitment requires CAPITAL B Belief that sees beyond the existence of Jesus to the VALUE of Jesus as the Son of God. Seeing the RIGHTEOUSNESS in him. Seeing the LOVE emanating from his presence and deposited in every one of his footprints.
Believing with a CAPITAL B is seeing the real Jesus—the infinitely valuable SON OF GOD. The point is to go beyond acknowledging the Sonship of Jesus to recognizing his infinite value and goodness.
WHY?
Because while Satan may believe Jesus is the Son of God, he does not, in any way shape or form, venerate and revere and adore him as VALUABLE.
Believers who believe with a CAPITAL B activate the Holy Spirit for protection from the Enemy’s lies and deception. In the process, they deactivate themselves as “boss” and release control to God. The result? They can be free to know him intimately. Love him completely. Worship him relentlessly.
Using God’s ticket to believe with a CAPITAL B activates the Holy Spirit. Turns our gaze away from ourselves and toward Christ. Allows us to experience a deep and blessed faith for eternity.
I ask God for his ticket to believe with a CAPITAL B. To help me activate the Holy Spirit so my gaze moves off me and toward him.
