Early in my faith walk I desperately wanted to hurl my incessant and destructive FEAR into the dump and watch it die and rot away. I’ll bet many of you have felt like that, too.
We mistakenly think our faith will zoom into the stratosphere when we stamp out fear in our life.
NO WAY! I learned much later that there can only be one way to vanquish fear—God’s perfect love must cast it out (1 John 4:18).
Our faith will explode with depth and meaning when God’s love has been perfected in us.
How much fear we carry is determined by how much we BELIEVE that God is in control. We must BELIEVE WITH A CAPITAL B! There is no partial, “lower-case belief.” God wants to remove our fear and replace it with trust in him and his promises.
That’s the goal—the Lord’s PERFECT LOVE.
So I ask God to teach me that living without fear does not come from anything we do. I ask God to remind me that only his perfect love will cast out fear. I ask God to make that a reality in my life.
