As 2024 winds down, I find myself wrestling with a piercing question: Will Christ be my North Star in 2025?
This isn’t a new metaphor. The North Star has guided travelers for centuries, offering a fixed point to navigate through uncertainty. But right now, as we prepare to step into 2025—a time of rapid change, cultural shifts, and digital distractions—the question feels more urgent.
Maybe God is calling YOU to the same challenge right now.
Why the North Star?
To follow Christ as our North Star means fixing our eyes on him, no matter how stormy life becomes. Today’s world constantly screams for our attention, offering fleeting comforts and false idols. But worldly wisdom cannot save souls or offer lasting peace.
Paul reminds us:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and set aside the understanding of the scholars.” 1 Corinthians
The gospel—foolishness to unbelievers—is life-transforming for those who believe. It’s not enough to acknowledge Christ as our guide; we must intentionally deactivate the world’s power and enthrone him as our North Star.
How to Follow the North Star
In 2025, following Jesus demands daily action. Here are three ways I stay on course:
DAILY QUIET TIME WITH GOD: Dedicate a specific time each day to prayer and scripture.
ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS: Identify what competes for my attention—social media, endless to-do lists, or misplaced priorities—and consciously set them aside.
WALK WITH OTHERS: Join a small group or community for encouragement. God never designed us to journey alone.
The Challenge of Comfort
It’s difficult to follow Jesus as our North Star when the culture around us streams messages of selfish comfort 24/7. This world wants us to believe life’s ultimate goal is joyful comfort. But Jesus didn’t come to make us comfortable; he came to save us.
Here’s the hard truth: Jesus is not a joy genie. He is our North Star.
When we allow the world’s distractions to cloud our view, we risk veering off course. That’s why I pray daily for God to help me fight off false hope and empty idols.
What About You?
As 2025 approaches, will Christ be your North Star?
This isn’t just a question for the end of the year; it’s a challenge for every day forward. Fix your eyes on him. Follow his light. Let him guide you into his perfect will.
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” (Matthew 2:10)
