Are YOU Spiritually INDIFFERENT?

Spiritual Growth

Would your faith increase or decrease if you knew your future?

That’s a question I wrestle with during my year-end Faith Inventory each December. Reflecting on it this morning, I prayed: “Lord, I want my faith to be Spiritually Indifferent about the FUTURE so I can freely respond to your call on my life TODAY.”

Here’s what Webster says about indifference:
in·dif·fer·ent = having no particular interest; unconcerned.

When applied to faith, spiritual indifference about the future is not a lack of passion but a refusal to be controlled by fear or worldly outcomes. It’s about living fully open to God’s will—without gripping tightly to specific results.

What Does SPIRITUAL INDIFFERENCE Look Like? It means:

  • Trusting God’s plan, not our desired outcome.
  • Letting go of obstacles that cloud our priorities—money, ego, comfort, or status.
  • Embracing an eternal perspective where God shapes the narrative.

This doesn’t mean detachment from God’s mission. On the contrary, our passion for him should burn brightly, as the Apostle Paul reminds us:

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11)

But here’s the twist: The world sees passion as a state of mind, but God sees it as a state of the heart. What you treasure reveals your spiritual passion:

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

Ask yourself: What do I treasure most?

HOW TO EMBRACE SPIRITUAL INDIFFERENCE

  • Identify what needs to die.
  • What habits, desires, or fears block God’s will in your life?
  • Spiritual indifference starts with surrender.
  • Pray with boldness.
  • Ask God to detach your heart from fear of the unknown and instead anchor it firmly in him.
  • Live for today.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow.” (Matthew 6:34, MSG)

This doesn’t absolve us of planning, but it reshapes our priorities. It empowers us to choose God first—no matter what.

YOUR NEXT STEP
As 2024 closes, reflect:
Am I spiritually indifferent to the future, or do I let fear dictate my choices? What can I let go of today to better serve God’s call?

Let’s enter 2025 with hearts free of fear, treasuring Christ above all else.

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
