God gives children a natural curiosity about life and its wonder. He gives them a quizzical and probing nature. He gives them a spontaneous bent and joyful heart. And then, like magic, it seems to vanish in the night as we grow up in a cynical bubble with oxygen infused with doubt and fear. Worry and fret. Problems and pain.
That’s a problem for us adult Christians who are told by God to be CURIOUS.
“When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these…” Mark 10:14
It’s clearly bad that we lose our natural, imbedded curiosity as we move through childhood and then get tossed into the adolescence chute to adulthood.
That’s bad. But it gets worse when we stop being CURIOUS about what we DON’T know. It starts when we FAIL to recognize that we are INADEQUATE without God. That puts us in the role of boss. And bosses think and act like they KNOW EVERYTHING, right?
How can we be CURIOUS about our faith and CURIOUS about what God would have us do when we have decided we know everything? IT’S IMPOSSIBLE.
So what do we miss when we act as boss and fail to recognize our INADEQUACY without God?
We stop being curious about what life would be like if we lived with:
Less FEAR. More LOVE. Less WORRY. More SERVICE. Less FAITH. More FORGIVENESS. Less BOASTING. More JOY. Less ANGER. More PATIENCE. Less ANXIETY. More KINDNESS. Less SELFISHNESS. More JUDGING. Less IMMATURITY. More SELF-CONTROL. Less EGO.
Aren’t you curious what living that kind of Christian life would be like? Pop back up there and read the previous paragraph again…please.
Why not be CURIOUS about what you DON’T know?
Try it. You will grow in the Spirit because CURIOSITY is a multiplier. One exploration leads to another discovery. That new discovery launches another probe that produces a new insight. That new insight spawns another learning exploration into God’s majestic Kingdom.
I thank God for saving me and bringing me closer to him. And I ask for help in recognizing my INADEQUACY without him. To give me the humility to be CURIOUS about what I DON’T know.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Are you CURIOUS about what you DON’T know?
“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable…” Proverbs 25:2-3
