This recurring question was peeking at me through today’s new dawn as it faithfully unwrapped its fresh dose of radiant hope: “WHO IS MY GOD, ANYWAY?”
Why is waking up to this particular thought not a surprise to me? Because even the most mature Christians periodically ask themselves that question.
It’s a POSITIVE sign that we are craving to know more about the Lord of Heaven and earth. Thirsting for more knowledge of his love and grace. Searching for how to be more Christ-like as we saunter through our faith walk on planet earth.
Each time this question pops into my mind’s cinema — Who is my God, anyway? – creates an opportunity to discover one more thing about him. One more thing to trust. One more thing to live out. So that’s what I’m doing this morning.
Exploring who God is on a regular basis helps me stay connected to Jesus every day in my never-ending quest to fear less, love him more, and fully activate this ministry’s namesake message–Love God Fear Nothing.
Asking this question reminds believers that it’s OK if we don’t completely understand God. It helps us accept without guilt that it is impossible to fully comprehend God.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord, as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
But that sobering REALITY sets up this glorious TRUTH:
We may not fully understand God, but we can KNOW HIM INTIMATELY because his Word makes that promise.
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3
The reality that we cannot fully comprehend God should NOT make us believe the lie that because of that we cannot know him, his Son, or the Holy Spirit. Once again, God’s Word is crystal clear that the Holy Spirit’s role is to point us to JESUS.
Jesus tells us that when the Holy Spirit comes “he will glorify me.” There it is…the Holy Spirit points us to WORSHIP JESUS.
“He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.” John 16:14
Even though I cannot fully understand God, I want to KNOW him intimately today and tomorrow and forever. That’s why I ask him to help me embrace the truth that makes that possible.
