Where our mind goes, our actions will soon follow.
If we want to live out of Godly purpose, we must diligently guard our thoughts and be transformed by the renewal of our mind.
How can God use us if our life is driven by conforming to the world we live in?
A renewed mind transcends avoidance of worldly behaviors because we can “do the right thing” and not be transformed. Renewing our mind is not moving from the flesh to the law. It is living by the fruit of the Sprit (Galatians 5:19–22).
The Holy Spirit will help us on two levels. First, from the inside, breaking our hard heart and corrupted mind. And, second, from the outside-in by exposing our mind to Christ-exalting truth.
Both levels are essential. Focusing exclusively on the outside-in will fall short because we have done nothing to break our hard heart and fill it with the humility of Christ.
God has already done his part in the renewal of our mind, but he will not do our part.
Renewing our mind takes more than tossing out the negative thoughts and images that continually pass across the cinema of our mind. We will never be able to shut off that movie. The key is in replacing the cacophony of lies and destructive thoughts immediately with God’s truth.
Don’t panic! Renewing your mind is a life-long marathon, not a daily sprint.
I ask God to guard my mind and heart. Help me toss out the parts of my thinking—my life’s movie—and replace them with YOUR truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
